Coventry Patmore letters and photograph, 1842-1865.

The collection contains four letters and one photograph. Patmore writes Dear Sir, 27 July 1842, about Lady Angela Pearson and the peerage of Stirling, and requests a check when he calls; to "Sir," 24 April 1865, from the British Museum agreeing to sit for a portrait at Mr. Edwards' Studio, and plans to ask one of his friends to write a few facts about him to accompany the portrait, presumably for publication; to my dear Madam, undated, thanking her for a present and that he will call next week to learn her opinion of the "Philosophy of salvation;" to Dear Sir, Thursday, requesting he hold onto the proof sheets until they have been corrected. Also, includes photograph of Patmore, post-1865, seated in front of a library backdrop.

Coventry Patmore was a British poet. He was appointed assistant in the printed book department of the British Museum in November 1846 and retired some time after 1865.
